The first Smart Lighting Expo and the 15th Hong Kong International Spring Lighting Fair, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), were held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center in Wan Chai from April 6 to 9, marking the beginning of the 4 major Spring Science and Technology Exhibition by HKTDC.
With the theme of "BRIGHT LIGHTING·SMART LIVING", this exhibition brought together more than 1,300 exhibitors. The Smart Lighting Expo invites cities from important lighting industry bases in the Greater Bay Area to participate in the exhibition, with pavilions from Foshan, Zhongshan and Jianghai District of Jiangmen; the displayed products and solutions include interconnected lighting technologies, such as chips, sensors, LED drivers, IoT lighting platforms, smart control systems, dimmers, smart lamps, smart lighting applications and systems, etc.

According to Statista, the size of the global smart lighting market is expected to surge from US$8.1 billion in 2020 to US$25.3 billion this year. Last year, a survey conducted by the HKTDC on exhibitors and buyers participating in the HK International Autumn Lighting Fair and the HK International Outdoor and Technology Lighting Expo also found that 41% of respondents expected lighting market sales to increase this year. In addition, 30% of them believe that smart lighting products and solutions will become the main growth engine of the industry.
